Cedar by Arboreal AI ("Cedar," "we," "us") is a daily habit check-in service delivered via SMS. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what we do with it. It applies however you reached us, including through arboreal.ai and cedarhabits.com.
When you sign up and use Cedar, we collect:

We do not sell your data, and we do not share your intake responses or your conversations with any third party for advertising.
Some of our public pages load analytics and advertising measurement tools. Google Analytics runs across our sites, measuring generic page activity such as that a page was viewed. The pages we point ads at also load the Meta and Reddit pixels. All of these record standard technical information your browser sends, like your IP address. We use it only to understand which ads bring people to our site.
We deliberately limit what these tools ever receive. Your intake survey answers and your Cedar conversations are never sent to an advertising platform, and we do not pass any information that identifies you personally to one. If you prefer to block this entirely, browser privacy settings and tracker-blocking extensions will stop these tools from loading.
To be completely specific, because this is the part people worry about:
We do use your number to text you about Cedar itself. That includes your daily check-ins, onboarding, replies when you contact us for support, service updates, and occasional news about new Cedar features. That is the product you signed up for, and you can end it at any time by replying EXIT. What we will not do is hand your number to an advertising platform or use it to follow you around the internet.
We use your phone number to send you Cedar messages. In practice that means your daily check-ins, onboarding messages when you start, replies when you contact us for support, occasional service updates, and news about new Cedar features.
We send messages through Twilio, our SMS provider, which processes your phone number solely to deliver messages on our behalf.
We use your email address for two things.
Running your account. Confirming your signup, onboarding details, telling you where you are in the queue, notices about changes to the service or to these policies, and replies when you contact us. These are part of the service, so they continue while your account is active.
Cedar news. Occasional updates about new features and how Cedar is developing. Every one of these carries an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing stops the news and nothing else: your check-ins and your account email continue as normal.
We send email through MailerLite, which processes your name, email address, phone number, and signup source on our behalf.
Some of our tools are run by other companies. They handle your data only to do the job we hired them for:
None of them may use your data for their own purposes.
The advertising and analytics tools described above are a separate matter: they receive page activity, not your intake answers or your conversations.
The intake survey asks two permissions separately, and we record which ones you granted. People answer these differently, and we honour whichever answer you gave.
Reviewing de-identified data. Whether we may review your messages, with your name and identifying details removed, to improve Cedar.
Sharing anonymized quotes. Whether we may use anonymized quotes as testimonials or examples. This one is not yes-or-no: you can allow both your feedback and your messages, allow your feedback only, or allow neither. We honour exactly what you picked, so choosing "feedback only" means your check-in conversations are never quoted. Either way we remove or change any detail that could identify you.
If you did not grant a permission, we do not use your data that way. You can change either answer at any time by emailing [email protected].
Your conversations are private. Designated team members at Arboreal AI may review conversations to fix issues and improve Cedar, but access is kept minimal and internal.
We will never hand your conversations to another company. The one exception is the anonymized quotes described above, and only to the extent you allowed them: those may appear publicly, with identifying details removed or changed. If you allowed feedback only, your conversations are not included.
We keep your data as long as you use Cedar. If you want your data deleted, email [email protected] and we'll remove it within 30 days.
Reply EXIT to any Cedar message and we will stop texting you.
Please know that this ends the service itself, not just one type of message. You will stop getting daily check-ins, and Cedar will not follow up with you again. It is not a way to pause or to receive fewer messages. If you want to come back later, email [email protected] and we will get you set up again.
STOP also works, and so do the other standard opt-out words: STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, QUIT, and END. Any of them stops the texts. Reply HELP at any time for support, or email [email protected].
If you used any of those words and later change your mind, reply START to that same number. The standard opt-out words make your carrier block our messages, and START is what lifts that block; emailing us cannot. EXIT does not involve your carrier.
If you would rather take a break than leave, reply PAUSE, and reply RESUME when you want your check-ins back.
To stop Cedar news email, use the unsubscribe link in any of those emails. To have your data deleted entirely, email [email protected].
